I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I wanted to share my most recent beauty discovery with you all: lemons! My boyfriend bought two bags of lemons (he overestimated…lol) to make these cocktails for my birthday. We only used about 5 lemons so I had over a dozen left and didn’t know what to do with them. So I started looking up beauty remedies using the little yellow fruit.
I know many people have been using them for years to help with minor skin issues, so I decided to try it out (I have a few dark spots on my face). And let me tell you, it has actually been working! I take half a lemon, cut side down, and rub it on my face at night and then rinse it off with cool water. I store the lemon in the fridge and use it for a few days until it dries out.
I recently wrote an article for Medical Daily on beauty tips and tricks using lemons. Here are a few of my favorite. To see the full article, please click here.
Remove Blackheads: Take a lemon and slice it in half, rub the juice all over your face and wait five minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Lemons have antibacterial properties, making it a perfect blackhead remedy. Blackheads are caused by clogged pores, and the acid called alpha hydroxyl from the lemons help to exfoliate the skin.
Strengthen Nails: Soaking nails into lemon juice for about 10 minutes and rinsing them with warm water once a week will not only help them to grow but will also remove any discoloration.
Lighten Discolored Armpits and Elbows: Discoloration and hyperpigmentation happens to people when there is more melanin in their skin. The more melanin a person has in their skin, the darker it will be. Since lemon acts as a bleaching agent, rubbing a cut lemon on armpits or elbows will help to lighten the skin in those areas.
Let me know if any of these work for you (but make sure to check with your health care provider before starting any beauty regimen ,especially if you are not sure how your skin will react). Also, please be careful when using lemons as they can be very drying and the acid can burn your skin if you have any cuts or nicks!
